Why Do This

Most of the day runs on autopilot

We rush. We react. We answer messages. We feel irritation, tiredness or anxiety — and usually notice it only after we have already reacted. Vipassanā gives you a way to stop and look, in the moment, rather than in the evening.

  • Notice the reaction before it becomes an action
  • Notice the emotion before it takes you over
  • Notice the urge to pick up the phone before your hand has moved
  • Notice the thought before it turns into words

Why ten days: short enough to fit inside ordinary life, long enough for the rhythm to take hold and for attention to learn to return to itself without effort.

The Shape of a Day

We go live from inside a real silent retreat

Our teachers move to a residential silent retreat near Calgary for the final days. You stay at home, but you practise with us — at the same time, in the same rhythm, inside the same space of silence.

It is a way to be part of a retreat even if you cannot leave your home. And if you can leave: there are places in the room.

The Main Tool

Attention counters

This is what turns an ordinary day into practice. Through the day you learn to catch the moments in which you normally act automatically.

How it works technically

A simple phone tool — one tap from your home screen. Everything stays on your device: no accounts, no sign-up, nothing sent anywhere.

What happens with the numbers

In the first days they are low, and that is normal. By around day four they start rising on their own — and that is when the point of it all becomes visible.

Moments worth noticing

  • When your hand reaches for the phone
  • When anger arises
  • When you feel irritated
  • When a strong emotion arises
  • When you want to say something right away
  • When your mood shifts
  • When you start a conversation
  • When you suddenly notice yourself

Noticing is enough. There is nothing to fix.

What to Expect

What changes over ten days

At first you simply do the practice. You wake early, you sit, you watch yourself. Then something starts to shift.

Days 1 – 3

Small numbers, and that is right

Five, maybe fifteen. You are not missing anything — the eye is still learning to see. Half of what happens passes unnoticed, and that is a normal part of learning to look.

Days 4 – 6

The jump

Often a sharp rise, sometimes threefold. Not because you remember more, but because you have started noticing it. For most people this is the most unexpected part of the ten days.

Days 7 – 10

Refinement

A plateau, sometimes a dip. By now you can see that some of the early taps were not quite it. That is refinement, not decline. A quiet day is also a real day.

Who This Is For

You don't need to be ready. Only willing to observe for ten days.

You have never meditated

Every live session is guided from the beginning. A way to meet the practice gradually, with a teacher alongside you rather than an app.

You have already sat a course

Most people come home from a residential retreat and lose the practice within two or three weeks — nothing at home holds the structure the centre held for them. These ten days are that structure.

You are preparing for a retreat

The first days of a silent retreat usually go on fighting the body and the mind. Go through that stage before you arrive — you enter the silence not from zero.

Who's Leading

Artem and Valerii guide the group together, all ten days

They teach vipassana meditation in Calgary and across Alberta and run silent retreats here. The practice follows the Mahāsi Sayadaw tradition. Certified with Yoga Alliance (RYT-200) and the International Yoga Federation.

FAQs

Before you decide

5:30 AM is very early. Is it negotiable?
No, and we are not going to soften it. Early morning creates a particular space for practice: the day has not started arguing with you yet — no messages, no work decisions, no dozens of small demands. Ten days is short enough to hold, and long enough to see what your mornings could be.
Do I have to attend everything, morning and evening?
The morning sit is the spine — protect that one. Come to as much of the evening as your day allows, and take the rest from the recordings. If you can only add one evening block, make it the 9:30 questions and answers: that is where your practice gets adjusted to your actual week.
Do I need any experience?
None. Every live session is guided from the beginning, and the teachers are there to answer questions through all ten days.
What if I am in a different time zone?
Use the switcher above to see the whole day in your own time. Every session is recorded, so another time zone is workable — but try to be live for at least some of the mornings, especially the first and the last.
What if I miss a session?
The recording arrives the same day. Do the practice when you can — a session alone at nine in the evening is worth far more than a skipped one. But when you can be live, be live: the fixed appointment is what makes the rest work.
What if I cannot hold all three counters?
Keep Remembering and add the other two when you are ready. Holding three counters through a whole day is the hardest part of the programme — harder than any of the physical practice. A smaller practice you keep beats a full one you abandon.
I have a back or knee injury. Can I still do this?
Yes. Tell the teacher in advance and stay with the parts that suit you. Chairs, cushions and modified sequences are all normal — nothing here is worth an injury.
Does sound healing work over a screen?
Better than people expect, with headphones and the lights down. You lie down, you do nothing, and you let the bowls do the work. It is on the evenings of days 3 and 6, when the body usually needs it most.
Is this the Goenka course?
No. We practise in the Mahāsi Sayadaw tradition, with noting at the centre of the method. The programme, the schedule and the teachers are our own.
What is the counter app, and where does my data go?
A simple counter that lives one tap from your home screen. Everything is stored on your device — no accounts, no registration, nothing sent anywhere. You install it from a link before day one; we send instructions for iPhone and Android.
Can I decide about the in-person retreat later?
Yes. Tell us right after you register that you are interested and we will hold a place for you. The final decision can come later — but places in the room are limited and they go early.
