What’s Included

Accommodation (3 nights)

Three nights' accommodation in a house on the shore of Gull Lake, with a choice of private or shared rooms depending on your booking. Comfortable, quiet, and designed to support your meditative journey.

Nutritious Vegetarian Meals

Two healthy vegetarian meals a day, a nutritious breakfast and a light dinner, prepared with fresh ingredients to support peace and balance in the body. In addition, seasonal fruits and snacks are provided throughout the day.

Daily Practices

A full program of yoga, pranayama, meditation, and sessions led by instructors. Each day is structured to balance physical exercise, breathing exercises, rest, and mindful relaxation, allowing you to deeply immerse yourself in silence.

Organized Transfer (Optional)

Transportation will be provided to the retreat location from both Calgary and Edmonton, making your arrival and departure hassle-free and stress-free.

I’ve never done a silent retreat before. Is this okay?

Yes, many participants join with no previous retreat experience. The practices are introduced gradually, and instructors guide you through the process step by step.

Do I need to know yoga or meditation beforehand?

Not at all. The retreat is open to both beginners and experienced practitioners. Everything is explained clearly, so you can simply follow the guidance.

I’m not very flexible. Will yoga still be suitable for me?

Yes. The yoga sessions are gentle and accessible. The focus is on breath, awareness, and relaxation rather than physical performance, and you can always move at your own pace.

What if I have knee, back, or other physical limitations?

That’s completely fine. You’re welcome to adjust or skip any posture if needed. The goal is to practice with awareness and comfort, not to push your body.

What does the retreat fee include?

The retreat price includes accommodation for three nights, vegetarian meals, and the full program of yoga, meditation, and guided practices. Optional transportation from Calgary or Edmonton may also be available.

Where will we be staying?

Participants stay in a quiet house surrounded by nature. Rooms are simple, comfortable, and designed to support rest and meditation during the retreat.

What kind of food is served during the retreat?

Meals are vegetarian and prepared to be light, nourishing, and supportive of meditation practice. Fresh fruit, tea, and healthy snacks are also available during the day.

Are phones or laptops allowed?

To support the experience of silence, phones and other devices remain turned off during the retreat. For emergencies, you’ll receive the organizers’ contact number that you can share with family before arriving.

Will there be any guidance during the silence?

Yes. Even though participants observe silence, all sessions are guided by teachers. Clear instructions are given throughout the day so you always know what to do next.

What if emotions come up during meditation?

This can happen and is a natural part of the process. Teachers are available for guidance if you need support during the retreat.

What should I bring with me?

Comfortable clothing for yoga and meditation, a warm layer for outdoor walks, a yoga mat, meditation cushion (if you have one), slippers, a water bottle, and personal items.

Is transportation to the retreat available?

Yes, an optional transfer may be organized from Calgary or Edmonton. Since seats are limited, it’s best to reserve a spot in advance.

When does the retreat begin and finish?

Participants usually arrive on Thursday afternoon around 7p.m. for check-in and orientation. The retreat concludes on Sunday around noon after the final meditation and lunch.

Is Vipassana connected to a specific religion?

No. Vipassana is a universal meditation practice that focuses on awareness and direct observation of breath and sensations, and it is open to people from all backgrounds.

What if I feel emotional during silence?

It’s completely natural. Silence can bring buried emotions to the surface. The teachers are available for private support if you need guidance during the process.

Can I attend the retreat with a partner or friend?

Yes, many people join with someone they know. However, during the retreat everyone follows the same guidelines of silence and personal practice, which helps create a focused and supportive environment for all participants.

Will there be any free time during the retreat?

Yes. While the days include structured practices such as yoga, meditation, and rest periods, there is also time for quiet walks, reflection, or simply enjoying the peaceful surroundings.

What if I need to ask something during the retreat?

Even though participants observe silence, teachers are available to support you. If something important comes up, you can communicate through short written notes or speak privately with an instructor in an emergency situation.
